INDUSTRIAL ERGONOMIC SOLUTIONS can help you! We provide businesses of all kinds
with:
WHAT IS ERGONOMICS?
Also known as "human engineering", ergonomics is the application of
physical laws to the actions inherent in work. It is the science, which applies
principles of physiology and anatomy to the design and arrangement of objects
in the workplace so that individuals and equipment interact most effectively
and safely.
With millions of dollars spent annually due to workman's comp injuries and decreased
worker productivity because of lost time, ergonomics is becoming an important
factor ultimately effecting an organization's bottom line.
In an office setting, ergonomics involves adapting the workstation to the worker,
not the opposite. It encompasses the entire work environment, lighting, chairs,
desks, telephone, computers and workstations. However, merely installing proper
equipment is not enough. Workers need to be educated. And, limiting the practice
ergonomics to strickle office environment is not enough! IES has expanded the
use of ergonomics to include the industrial and manufacturing sectors.
Ergonomics involves adjustments requirements to meet individual needs for the
purpose of locating and maintaining the employee's posture in the neutral position,
or normal body alignment. It makes sense that maintaining the body in the neutral
position decreases stress and increases employee comfort, alertness and productivity.
The bottom line involves the convergence of two principles: 1) an ergonomics
incorrect work area increases an employee's likelihood of developing muscle
fatigue and strain to ligaments and spinal discs. Unattended, this can lead
to more serious injuries, postural deformities, decreased range of movement,
pain, headaches, numbness in the extremities as well as fatigue caused by decrease
total lung expansion. 2) An employee who is not educated in the principles of
ergonomics will not benefit themselves or their employer fully, even in a properly
designed environment.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To educate employers and employees in ergonomics by providing the necessary
tools through on-site demonstrations and lectures. To help employers evaluate
and implement appropriate physical adjustments as well as equipment adjustments
that will ultimately create a more efficient, effective workplace and increase
employee comfort, alertness and productivity, positively effecting their bottom
line. To keep employers current with proposed OSHA Ergonomics Standards. To
motivate employees to accept responsibility for their working bodies, viewing
themselves as workplace athletes whose well being is key to their success in
and out of the workplace.
