IMPACC, a group of
physical therapists
specializing in workplace injury prevention consulting to industry,
has evolved since 1982 a unique format of "Neck-Arm CTD School."
This is a program of teaching managers and supervisors how to
reduce CTD injuries, claims, and costs... plus teaching workers
how to protect themselves from musculo-skeletal fatigue and wear
damage.
This program has been
presented at thousands
of workplaces across a wide variety of settings. Outcomes have
been consistently favorable, with client companies reporting
approximately
70 percent reductions in lost work days attributable to CTD claims
in the 12 to 24-month period following implementation of the program.
Several companies with runaway epidemics of CTD have seen radical
improvements in their CTD-related problems, including 90-plus
percent reductions in lost work days accompanied by significant
improvements in productivity.
The program allows you to
facilitate
changes in work design, worker behaviors, policies, procedures,
and-or attitudes in ways that contribute to significant reductions
in CTD claims and lost days. We describe the program as addressing
a wide scope of issues including ergonomics, preventive stretching,
case management, restricted duty programs, job task rotation,
employee relations and policy enforcement.
The Neck-Arm CTD School
addresses injuries,
claims, and costs as three separate issues. Risk factors and prevention
strategies for each of these three issues are identified and discussed
in detail. Manager and supervisor training is a four-hour comprehensive
education process to not only create a knowledge base for CTD
management, but to also align attitudes and commitment toward
more cost-effective company policies. This is followed by a two-hour
employee "WorkSmart" program that emphasizes fatigue-avoidance
tactics. The newest version for 2006 includes a condensed one-hour
employee program for review or utilization as needed by your client.
This program offers
several unique approaches
based on key challenges to convention: (1) ergonomics by itself
is not the answer; (2) employee risk behaviors must be addressed;
(3) management attitudes and hostile approaches to CTD must be
corrected; (4) CTD is not a mainly "repetitive motion injury"
but is, instead, more the result of static posture; (5) nutrient
pathway is a vital issue of CTD cause and prevention; (6) CTD
is likely as much the result of proximal stresses, especially
mechanical thoracic outlet compression, as are distal stresses
more local to the wrist and hand; (7) fatigue avoidance is key
to CTD prevention, especially when talking to employees; (8) job
task rotation, seating issues, and properly-applied stretching
programs are critically important prevention strategies, especially
where ergonomic corrections are not available or affordable.
The program then goes
beyond prevention
to teach companies how to reduce related CTD costs through early
reporting of discomfort by employees, building relationships with
the medical community, positive claims response and management,
and developing a restricted duty program.
The Process
Qualitative
Work Risk
Analysis... format
that identifies risks for CTD injury in the workplace and shows
you how to analyze OSHA 200 logs, workstations and assess workplace
politics. The report you produce provides management with valuable
insight and information that becomes a part of their Written ErgoPlan.
Management
Team
Training... teaches
managers, supervisors and labor leaders a wide scope of strategies
for reducing injuries, claims and costs. Presents the technology
and politics of injury and claims prevention. Builds attitudes,
skills and commitment.
Employee
Motivation
Program... one and two hour programs on worker
self-protection training. Emphasizes fatigue-avoidance tactics,
personal ergonomics and self-care responsibility both on and off
the job. Includes stretching and fit for life emphasis. The
employee program is now available
as a web-based CBT (Computer Based Training) program. Go to http://www.impacctraining.com to view. We have a revenue sharing
affiliate program available.
ErgoTeam
Training...
Advanced training
of a select in-house team for ergonomic problem-solving and long-term
success of the IMPACC Program. Structured to comply with OSHA
ERGONOMICS GUIDELINES. WorkSmart written ErgoPlan policy manual
for Ergonomics compliance is included with the program.
